Yemen Haraaz Roast Date: 11/20
For the adventurous coffee drinker.
This lot is grown in Haraaz, a rocky mountainous region of Yemen known as one of the primary origins of coffee. For generations, farmers have been terracing the mountains to grow coffees that are unique when harvested and processed carefully.
Coffee in Yemen is organically grown--though not certified--and all of the coffee is naturally/dry processed -- given the country is arid and not much water is available for irrigation or processing. Yemen also boasts a wide range of coffee varietals simply not found in other countries. All of these factors lend themselves to a uncommon coffee-drinking experience.
For years now, green coffee importer Cafe Imports has been working the Mahal Aqeequl Drying Station to produce this remarkable coffee. Farmers are paid a premium to deliver ripe picked cherries which are then meticulously sorted, cleaned of dirt and dried on raised beds for up to 35 days. The result is an exceptionally clean coffee with profound complexity.
This is not a "typical" coffee. If you are looking for something straightforward, this one might not be for you. But if you are looking for something "out there" it is a must try.
Coffee Review rated this coffee 96 in November 2024. From their blind assessment:
“Deep-toned, richly earth-sweet. Perique tobacco, preserved Meyer lemon, fresh fig, tea rose, myrrh in aroma and cup. Gently bright, balanced acidity; very full, viscous mouthfeel. Integrated, harmonious, floral-toned finish.”
PLEASE NOTE: We will roast this coffee on 11/20. Your entire order will be shipped once this coffee is roasted.
